The arrival

Arrival to Maui was without fanfare. We checked in about 9:30pm local time, again without golf clubs. The airline toll free number is a joke because they keep passing the buck saying, "there is nothing they can do."  Well, why have the toll free number?  In Vancouver, they couldn't help us because we didn't have a reference number with respect to the lost luggage. Of course we didn't, because we were en route!  The only way to get a reference number was get to Maui (which is 9:30pm or 1:30am Regina time).  To keep a long story short, the people on the other end of AC's toll free number were incompetent. I realize they were following their check list of things to say and do, but all we wanted was a call placed to the Regina airport and they would have looked into where our bags were.  After a day of losing my mind on the phone, I just got Howard (Deb's Dad) to go down to the airport, put Bill from baggage on the line with me, and lo and behold, things were getting done. Bill immediately told me the bags were already gone to Calgary and likely will arrive the following day in Maui. The bags did arrive over 2 days later. Still have not had one phone call from AC updating us on the status of our clubs. Unbelievable.

Now that we're set, things are looking up. On Tuesday we checked into the Mercedes Championship for the opening practice round and got a few autographs and pictures. We kept missing Mike Weir, who always stayed ahead of us.  Wednesday was a different story, as the Pro-Am was on. We followed Weir for 9 holes and got a few pics and autographs.  What a classy guy!  Truly Canadian.  Look for big things from him this week. As I said to Deb yesterday, "Weir will be like the Canadian dollar vs. the US dollar.... better than par".  Also bumped into Alice Cooper and actor Samuel L. Jackson as well as former PGA tour player and now golf analyst Nick Faldo.  Now that we've fullfilled our Canadian duties with Weir, it's now time to lounge and take a break.  The pool looks really good right now.  Beach and whale watching tonight. Big Smile
